In answer to journalist question: "We are facing a Life 3.0, a form of silicon mind that is like ours in its creativity for insight, but totally alien in it's thought processes.
I (interviewer): So, the next frontier for AI is mastering human language, using algorithm?

Cut to boys packing their bags.

MT: This has already happened.
Cut to fake obama clip
MT to camera: North Korea is a threat. It has already carried out cyber attacks. It will be missiles next.

Cut to boys exchanging looks and heading out the door.

- The bunker: Callum's garage due to the ideal set up of space inside, low roof, little lighting from a dying lamp and big heavy door. Close ups of small light produced by lamp and wide shot showing limited amount of space; This will emphasise the conditions the boys face.
  • backstory: what do the boys look at / remember / flashbacks?

- The race to the bunker with the 3 boys: Camera movement using tilt pan perhaps merging into a guerilla (handheld) technique of 1 of the boy's POV, from a fast cut (creates tension and increases of impact of the scene).

- Initial film settings: A display of traditional London roads (busy transport, high rise buildings, overcast weather). Or, shots of the mansion and cuts to the children in the school tunnel with the old fashioned architechture and darkness reflecting daily London life.

- Destruction: Could be a last scene of the fast moving montage towards the end adding tension and questions. If able, getting a still shot of a ruined building alongside either a very quiet or loud soundtrack to give huge emphasis on the potential end of the children's childhood.

- Aftermath: Opening the heavy door of the bunker and white light shines strongly through as there is a tracking

Intertitles
Journey to bunker - Whilst handheld shots are displayed as POV and tracking shots following the kid in front, titles pop up showing actors and production team.

Soundtrack
  • dialogue: slow background music when clips consist of running to the bunker to create an unusual contrast in the film, or deep bass music for exaggeration of tension.

PLANNING --> OUR TREATMENT

The year is 2027 and Daniel, Timothy and Benji are foster students/brothers living within the centre of London. In recent years there has been a lot of tension between the US and its allies between North Korea. The UK defense system has detected North Korean missiles. It has been broadcast around the UK that there is only a certain amount of time before one hits London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast and Cardiff. The country has descended into chaos; there is economic ruin. The children are able to get into their bunker in time only a few minutes before the missiles arrive in the specific locations. The bomb hits; two weeks later one of the boys opens the door to the bunker… the trailer ends on a cliff hanger.

The Top Line
Three foster children face death as they race against time to make it to their bunker to survive the nuclear missiles; However, complications rise throughout their journey.

The Big Question
Will those missiles beat the children to safety?
Will they make it in time?
Will they all make it to the bunker?

Research
As part of my research into how to devise a treatment I watched a FutureLearn Video by Frank Ash. In this video Frank Ash explores how to make your film interesting to the audience but also to make your film relevant to current social trends - as this will aid the attraction of the film's target audience against a more random film which isn't so much part of a current social trend.
As a result, this made us consider the Disaster genre and mix it with the very real North Korean threat that the world faces - specifically the US run by Donald Trump. Similar methods are shown on another website named Movie outline. Movie Outline think that the most important element of a film is to make it topical but also ensure that it fits under the genre that is most popular at the moment.

RESEARCH --> GEOSTORM TRAILER ANALYSIS (2017)

Feature
Comment
Genre
Disaster/Action
Narrative
There was no narrative however a voiceover by a singer gives a classy effect to the complete opposite tone of the scenes being displayed of traumatic events.
Unique Selling Point
This is a very unusual film as no movie has involved the destruction of every extreme environment condition like a city destroying tsunami, lightening like a shotgun spray and tornados which take out anything in it’s paths.
Target Audience
Ages 15 – 40 as it has the very exhilarating tone and images to it, but also can relate to horrific events which the older generation have experienced themselves or witnessed.
Music
The trailer soundtrack is strange as it contrasts the opposite of the tone being set by the cut scenes and montages. Whilst there are 20+ tornados wiping out everything, there is a female singer gently singer in the background. But towards the end, it quickly cuts and the deep toned and loud beat are introduced which emphasise the mass-destruction.
Shot types/Camera Angles
Aerial shot, panning shot, low angle, tracking shot, high angle.
Pace
Slow starting pace with minimal soundtrack and scenes but gradually picks up as scenes become shorter and more disturbing to emphasis the horrific events which occur throughout the movie. Although the music contributes to the slow pace.
Dialogue
No dialogue in this trailer apart from the voiceover.
Voiceover
No voiceover.
Special Effects
The explosions would be special effects as well as some scenes with the incredible landscape as it looks realistic but isn’t. The soundtrack can also be considered as special effects as it has a spectacular contrast with the set tone.
Credits and Intertitles
No credits and intertitles.

RESEARCH --> WORLD WAR Z TRAILER ANALYSIS (2013)

Feature
Comment
Genre
Disaster/Apocalypse
Narrative
A father finds himself in a situation where he needs to find a cure for a widespread zombie virus outbreak.
Unique Selling Point
Brad Pitt is a famous actor hasn’t done a movie like this before. There are a lot of different settings in this movie as they travel around the world to figure out the cure.
Target Audience
Ages 15 – 35 as it reflects imagination from the slightly younger audience.
Music
The soundtrack is quite heavy but electrical, there are no noticeable instruments in the trailer as we can only hear computerised sounds. There are heavy beats at some points which represent heart beats.
Shot types/Camera Angles
Canted angle, high angle, tilt pan, close up, low angle, establishing shot.
Pace
Slow start where the family are in the car, escalates quickly when there is a rubbish truck ploughing through cars and an explosion in the distance.
Dialogue
There is a lot of shouting in the trailer to show the distress and suspenseful situations. The starting dialogue is to show the relationship between the family, and how they spend time as a family in the car.
Voiceover
No voiceover
Special Effects
The explosions would be special effects as well as some scenes with the zombies, one of the scenes where they used CGI is when the zombies are climbing up the wall and on top of each other.
Credits and Intertitles
No credits and intertitles.
